Simple Pleasures
Today, back to the simplicity and pleasure of a portable studio kit filled with nothing more than some pens, my wax pastels, and a couple of postcard starts.
I sit on the loveseat in the dining nook at my dad's house in Maine with sister Marjorie and rustle up a little postcard.

Love the simplicity and the cross form. Great composition, in the way that there are lots of "resting places" for the eye as it keeps traveling right to that focal point with all the criss crosses. Nice, Dotty!
Laurie, sweet! I intentionally attended to simplicity, cruciform composition, and resting places in this piece—and I am so happy for your feedback which touched on all those elements!
My first association is something with ribbons, hand made needlework ... weaving.

I love the palette, the duplicate forms, the circles and tick marks...white space and rough edges. I can also see a landscape in this. Distant trees on snow covered mountains, or maybe they are just shrouded in a morning fog. I think "entwined".

And I LOVE that you see landscape; in fact, I was waiting to see if you would comment and to see if you'd see landscape—I just had a feeling you would. It wasn't until after I'd posted that I suddenly saw landscape, and I was wondering if anyone else would … and you did! Love the word "entwined" with this painting : )
