Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!

Dorothy of Oz and I may share a name but my exclamation might be Patterns and Density and Scale, Oh My!

Started mucking about today with the aforementioned.

I thought it'd be relaxing to do no more than use a variety of tools to create a smattering of patterns of varying density and scale. To my surprise, though, I felt antsy without composition or color as a driving force. Further, while playing with neutrals satisfied an itch yesterday, today those neutrals seemed kinda lackluster and, well, neutral.

That said, I had fun using a brayer, pens, bottle caps, ear plugs, brushes, foam stamps, and wax pastels to create this, that, and the other.

This, That, and the Other, Oh My!
Your designs are getting more and more diverse, sophisticated, and compelling. I love the direction(s) you are going. The second "that" and the last "other are my favorites!

Laurie, wish I'd thought of your alternate title myself: This, That, and the Other, Oh My! I always enjoy your titles.

Thanks for your feedback and for your support of my trying this, that, and the other, oh my! Sometimes I look up and ask myself, "How did I get HERE?" Back when I started painting back in spring 2014, I never would have envisioned playing with just about anything I've played with over the past six months. I love the adventure of it all!

I'm also drawn to the second "that." It reminds me of puzzle pieces, one of the themes in the scrap book you, Laur and I made for Muth and Futh.

Fun that my pattern triggered memories of the scrapbook, Worker Bee! I used an ink stamp I have from when my kids were little.

I like that, that,... and well all the others. Love your playfulness, and patterns. I am a pattern gal, LOL. Love the metallic, and scribbles and lines. Curious what these will become, even if it is months from now. :)

Thanks for your comments, Sheila. Not sure what I'll do with these pages. Short term, I think they're going to act as a reference I can use to spark ideas as I undertake painting exercises where pattern is the overarching focus. Down the road, I might tear or cut up pieces to use as collage.

Dotty, I really like the first That. Love the shapes.

Ann, thanks for chiming in! The black donuts in particular appeal to me because of their inherent imprecision, their free self-expression.
