Full Heart, Broken Heart

Best Valentine's Day activity: making collaged hearts with granddaughters Caroline and Emmy. Totally LOVED the art table time together. Full heart.

Don't even talk to me about the weather's forcing us to leave VA today instead of tomorrow. I have nothing nice to say. Nothing. Broken heart.

So SOORRRYYY your full heart is now breaking because of your forced early departure. That is such an unforgivable trick by Mother Nature. I have no words except to wish you SAFE TRAVELS. Love you. ❤️

Oh Dotty, I LOVE these valentines. And how lucky you all are to have each other. I know you're sad about leaving early, but oh, the time you DID have together!

Thanks, Laurie. These Valentines were entirely satisfying and fun to make and, yes, lucky those girls and I are to have each other. Still feeling sadness at early departure but simultaneously basking in every moment we had together!

Indeed. Plus, I brought home all sorts of scraps from our art play and will continue playing with them at home, thereby holding those girls and my memories in my hands a bit longer.

Looks like all of you had a wonderful time. It's great watching children get lost in the magic of creating something. I love how the hearts turned out! And that you hung them up..kinetic sculpture. I bet they will remember this for a long time...sorry you had to cut it short due to the storm and glad you made it home safely.

Such fun to hang out making art with those two wonderful girls, ages 6 and 9. I was counting on 6 to model the drawing of wonderfully freeform hearts so I could imitate hers but she was all strategy—first she'd cut out a square or rectangle from her master collage, then she'd fold it in half, then she'd cut a half heart which of course came out perfectly symmetrical when unfolded! At the same time, I got to enjoy 9's deciding on and executing a farmer's market theme—all her collage scraps were images of fruits or veggies. The end results were grand, and I do take pleasure in knowing they will twirl from the light fixture for awhile before anyone thinks to cut them down. SO sad to leave, but we did return safely, missing the snow you got.
