Painting Love

One of the characteristics I love most about my sister-in-law, Linda, is the wide-eyed, wowed-by-the-world child in her. She laughs easily and with complete abandon. Puts on no pretenses. Fully enjoys the simplest of pleasures with uncomplicated delight.

Linda moved into hospice care on Sunday. Yesterday morning I painted some love to send her.

Six decades ago, in kindergarten, I drew a self-portrait with Crayola crayons for my first report card. I've copied that self-portrait in paint two or three times this year, most recently yesterday.

What better way to send my love to Linda than kid-to-kid?

This is so sweet, and such a thoughtful way to send your love :)

Sheila, thanks so much for your kind words. Painting has become a contemplative/therapeutic practice for me (when it doesn't drive me crazy, depress me, and/or frustrate the heck out of me), offering me a way into being fully present—a state of being that otherwise has been known to elude me. I am grateful to have painting as a way to reach out to others.

I love, love, love this painting and know she will too, based on what you've said about her. What a beautiful gift from your heart to hers.

I love her, too. Sweet painting (you have to tell her it's inspired by the "No, David!" series!! Perfect!)

Thanks for your vote of confidence. I've ordered a red frame and will send the painting off pronto. With its frame it'll stand up anywhere for easy viewing, reminding Linda of my love.

Thanks for reminding me to let Linda know about the "No, David!" connection. As someone who laughs easily and loves a good chuckle at the expense of her brother, she will no doubt get a kick out of the inspiration behind the painting style!
